Coworking space in Baró de Viver

To meet the need for growth and provide new meeting rooms, a new space was designed for Sinèrgics (a social-impact coworking hub) located in the Baró de Viver neighbourhood in Barcelona.

The new area was intended to serve multiple purposes, accommodating everything from workshops and presentations to meetings and video calls. It features floor-to-ceiling curtains that allow users to divide the room into two independent, simultaneously usable spaces, enabling two coworkers to work privately without interfering with one another.

When the curtains are drawn back, a single open space can host larger groups or accommodate various activities. The design remains minimalist: the area is defined by white walls, while large floor-to-ceiling windows open the room up to the adjacent street. Views from the street can also be blocked by curtains to ensure privacy when needed. The flooring remains continuous and uniform, creating the impression of a single, open-plan area; this contrasts with the ceiling, which emphasizes the division of the room into smaller zones. Distinct colors are used for each sub-area (making them appear as physically separate blocks) while the interstitial spaces between them conceal the curtain tracks.

The colors were selected to give each subdivision a distinct visual identity, allowing for a complete transformation of the space as the curtains are moved; this causes the colored blocks to appear or disappear depending on the partition layout. The three chosen colors create an atmosphere reminiscent of buildings and graphic design from the Bauhaus movement, appealing to their shared working environment and community ideals, which are essential to Sinèrgics.
